So often regarded as a herald of spring, Crocus is a member of the iris (Iridaceae) family, and is made up of around 80 species of late winter- and early springflowering corms. Their natural distribution range extends from central Europe to northern Africa and central Asia.

These are some of my photos of irises.
I live in the south east of Australia and I have never seen a crocus, but I have seen many varieties of irises.
Apparently the crocus grow well in partial sunlight in rockeries.
In some northern lands
Of magical winter snows
Crocus break the spell
But in my warm climes
The crocus is like a dream
Small distant cousin
