So often regarded as a herald of spring, Crocus is a member of the iris (Iridaceae) family, and is made up of around 80 species of late winter- and early springflowering corms. Their natural distribution range extends from central Europe to northern Africa and central Asia.

These are some of my photos of irises.
I live in the south east of Australia and I have never seen a crocus, but I have seen many varieties of irises.
Apparently the crocus grow well in partial sunlight in rockeries.
In some northern lands
Of magical winter snows
Crocus break the spell
But in my warm climes
The crocus is like a dream

A lovely set, but I too love the first one especially. Thank you for sharing :)
Wonderful set of haiku - beautifully presented. Don't think too far north...its still snowing here,-10C and ice underfoot...no crocus for a long while! I think I need to move...
Yes, they do break the winter's spell! I love it....right now, I think spring is a dream
Beautiful.
The crocus is a lovely little flower
Comes and goes so quickly.

The first one feel perfect. The happy sight of the first crocuses really breaks the spell.
magical
Crocus are one of the early spring flowers here. We also have snowbells that appear just ahead of them... in about a month. I love your iris photos, they are gorgeous! Have a wonderful week!
