Haiku + Senryu

Haiku is a seasonal, reverent celebration of a subject (nature or people) trying to make a feeling.
Senryu tends to have a victim and may be humorous or irreverant trying to make a point.

This is Rachael Leahcar, a successful young contestant on the Australian version of The Voice.
After The Voice, she performed at the 2012 Myer Music Bowl Vision Australia Christmas concert.
(It was screened on TV, and this is my photo from the TV broadcast!)

Rachael has only 10 per cent of her vision left due to a degenerative eye condition called retinitis pigmentosa.
She does not want to be known as a blind person who can sing; she wants to be known as a singer who happens to be blind.
But she hopes for a change.
See HERE!

Below is her Blind Audition song - La Vie en Rose - that began her journey to the top!
(Blind in this case just means that the judges did not see her till they chose to turn their chairs around!)

My colours are numbed
But I hear and touch the world
With a white life line

Gemma, may we all have such courage and dedication to sing our song despite what others might see as a limitation. Powerful post and haiku. Thank you!

I would say a very wise take on prompt, Gemma. I salute to people like her who do not make their disability a miserable excuse in life. I wish her eyesight is restored.

Beautiful haiku, I loved 'white lifeline'.
